The NPR car donation system was started six years ago to help create an additional way for members to support their favorite listener sponsored radio station. In those few short years, the program has produced over three and a half million dollars for NPR, through thousands of donated vehicles.

The NPR vehicle donation program makes it easy to give. The entire transaction can be handled through the website, if desired. Tow-away is free, and a receipt will be given for tax purposes once the car’s title is cleared. No fees are charged, but NPR offers full disclosure of the value of a donated car to their organization.

The net percentage after associated auction and transportation costs, which the station or buyer incurs in their entirety, is 75% for cars sold over $500, and 70% for those sold for less than $500.

The towing, title, tax receipts, DMV, and auction costs all need to be absorbed by NPR, and in some cases, the buyer. The average cost of transportation and the like is $114 per vehicle; for title and DMV fees, $50 per vehicle.
